K Project is set in a world where seven kings are given extraordinary power by the Dresden Slate, a mysterious stone found in Germany during World War 2. These kings, who are labeled by color, can also share their power with people they call their clan. Yata is a high ranking member of the Red Clan, also known as Homra. Not much is known about his background, other than he was just out middle school when he joined Homra, and that he joined the clan with his close friend, Saruhiko Fushimi. He claims that Mikoto Suoh, the King of Homra, saved himself and Fushimi, but there appears to be some sort of misguided hero-worship there, as it is later revealed that Suoh simply showed off his dangerous powers to two bored kids. Be that as it may, Yata stayed in Homra and Fushimi left for a rival clan, Scepter 4.

It appears that Yata was close to and cared about (on some level) everyone in Homra, especially the higher members such as Mikoto, Totsuka, and Kusanagi. He also seems to have never forgiven his former best friend for betraying him, the higher ups of Homra even taking note of the feud. Homra seems to have run fairly smoothly, doing things like taking down drug dealers and playing baseball. However, one night in December, one of the top members in Homra, Totsuka, was shot by a man claiming to be the Colorless King and dies.

Naturally, this angers Homra and they go about finding the killer, which proves harder than one would expect, considering they have him on camera and have a young girl that has excellent locating abilities. Scepter4 gets involved, as well as the vassal to the previous Colorless King. The killer seems to be a student at a local high school that's on a nearby island. It basically turns into a huge mess that ends up with everyone having a large scale battle the high school and Suoh's powers slowly going out of control.

[Note: Of course there's more detail on why the murder case is a huge mess, but it's sort of...split into two stories and not everyone in this canon knows everything the other side does. Like, who the Colorless King really is and who the student they think the killer really is and why he's so hard to catch. I've covered the parts this character would know, not everything someone watching would know. If I need to expand of this please let me know]

Personality:

On the surface, Yata is brash and wouldn't hesitate to even give his subordinates a smack and tell them they're stupid. He swears openly and usually wears a scowl. He usually does well enough in fights to not end up gravely injured, even though he is shown to somewhat lose. When fighting, he's often impulsive and angry and appears to use all of his available energy in an attack. He also seems to highly enjoy the idea of fighting; he never misses an opportunity to fight. Most of his skill is in hand to hand combat, in which he uses both his Aura and his skateboard.

However, he's not actually what one would consider a "mean" person. Underneath all of his brash attitude, he's a very caring and loyal kid. He seems to genuinely care for the people around him. He's shown laughing and being playful with the other members of Homra, suggesting he's not always angry or fighting. Yata was the one who reached Totsuka first after he was shot, and he showed no hesitation or embarrassment in holding him or shedding tears at his death. This also shows that he has plenty of empathy for those he cares about, which are basically the members of his clan.

Despite that, he's nervous around girls, often blushing and stuttering; he even lets his shyness around girls affect his performance. He did not to question females during an important search mission, therefore decreasing the chance of finding information. This seems to largely be due to him being rather clueless; something that is also proved when he is shown to not understand his former best friend's feelings toward Homra.

Kusanagi, Suoh's second in command, even calls him an idiot, although this might be teasing, considering Yata is apparently good enough to obtain a high position- vanguard- in Homra. It's worth noting Homra is a larger group than first suggested and is also successful, implying that group is run well, so it'd be kind of difficult for him to be a complete idiot if he's got a high position in a successful organization. He can, however, act rashly and refuse to listen, especially when angry.

In speaking of him being angry, an angry Yata is often amusing to watch because he gets flustered quite easily. He seems to take everything personally. He gets overly defensive of those he cares about/is loyal to. He dislikes being underestimated and doesn't take insults- even playful ones- well. He is particularly touchy about girls, his girly first name, his short stature, and his old friendship with Fushimi. His default reaction seems to be "I'll fucking kill you!" even though he rarely actually does anything, let alone actually trying to kill the person.

He has a rather intense relationship with Fushimi. It appears that they were quite close before they met Suoh. For some reason, Yata feels an incredible amount of respect towards Suoh. He hero-worshiped Suoh and never questioned anything the King did. and from the appearances of it, began pulling away from Fushimi, which angered the other. At the very least, Fushimi was annoyed with Yata's hero worship of Suoh and the rest of Homra. It appears that Yata really believes in Homra and respects it, where as Fushimi saw nothing but a bunch of punks and gangsters.

Overall, he's a fairly normal teenager looking for a place to belong, and he believes Homra is that place. He can seem moody and cold, but he has a pretty soft heart and doesn't like feeling betrayed, belittled, or underestimated. He's shown laughing and smiling on numerous occasions before Totsuka's death, so it is likely when he is not under stress or fighting that he might be somewhat easy to get along with. And honestly, the best way to get on his bad side is to badmouth Homra or Mikoto Suoh, as it appears that those two things Yata cares the most about.

Abilities/Powers:

He has a Red Aura and ordinary street fighting skills. His preferred weapon is a bat, although he can use his skateboard when fighting.

Items:

His clothes and a skateboard definately, although a cell phone is up for debate since he might have had it on him during the fight or have left it somewhere safe.
